COACHING TO OVERCOME A CRISIS
A life crisis is a situation creating difficulties that you don’t know how to deal with. No all life crisis situations are due to existential and fundamental changes. You are in it when life is getting on top of you and you don’t see a way out.
Becoming a parent, going through a menopause or something as simple as getting used to retirement or handling a change of location. We go through many changes at different stages of life. Getting support when you need it shows that you take yourself seriously and place importance on your well being.
DEFINING YOUR CRISIS
In coaching, we start by defining the life crisis; ist it due to something that happened that is beyond your control? For example, you were unexpectedly laid off, your partner left you, or you were the victim of a crime.
The life crisis can however also occur without an external cause, for example because it is time to change your focus life or because you have been questioning the meaning of your professional and private life. A life crisis can also be caused by yourself, for example when you have not recognised the needs of your partner and now noticing rejection.

Your questions about life crises
Affected persons tend to have mood swings, brooding, insecurity and question their previous life. Anxiety and a feeling of helplessness are also typical characteristics. Those suffering a life crisis begin to doubt all aspects of life such as their profession, their partnership or even the reason why they started a family.
Usually it all starts with a change, or a shock, such as being fired from your job or suddenly starting to doubt the validity and importance of life until now. You are stunned and cannot really perceive yourself or the world around you. The first reaction to shock is to repress it or ignore it. You might assume for example, that you will soon find a better job or simply talk your way out of the crisis by saying everything will be alright. Once you get past this phase you start to process the shock. At this point you are ready to accept the help of a therapist and work together to develop new perspectives.
Don’t just grit your teeth and carry on as before, even if your friends and family advise you to do so. If everything is too much for you, take the feeling seriously. Cut back on unnecessary tasks . You should also consult a psychotherapist, as you are potentially heading into a crisis where you begin to doubt the meaning of life.
